Berkhamsted Schools for Berkhamsted Children.

Keep our children educated in our town.

Berkhamsted is one of the worst 3 towns in Hertfordshire for maintained nursery places with more than 10% of children applying this year not being offered a place in their town.

23 three year olds in Berkhamsted and Northchurch have been allocated nursery school places in Hemel Hempstead and Tring. If there are not enough nursery places now, then a year from now, the problem will be much worse when even more children will be fighting for reception places in our town!

Attending a local school is vital for a young child to form friendships and a sense of belonging to their community. It is a child's right to to attend a school in their home town.
In 2011 even more children will be sent to other towns for their reception places unless provision is made now.

You are encouraged to sign this petition if you have a concern about the shortage of school places for local children.

Petition:

We will present this petition to John Harris - Director of Children, Schools and Families, to show the extent of the concern felt by Berkhamsted residents.

We the undersigned call on the Hertfordshire Director of Children, Schools and Families to ensure that all local children from the age of nursery admission, should be educated at schools in Berkhamsted. No children should have to travel away from their home town to have access to either their free nursery place entitlement, or their statutory school place. The shortage of school places indicates a clear need for expansion of local schools.

An extra class is needed to accommodate both the oversubscribed nursery intake as well as the potential over-subscription of the 2011 Reception intake.
